7-Mode Simulator 8.2.5P4

Is there a 7-Mode simulator still available, in particular one with 8.2.5P4? I have a handful of 7-mode systems left and would like to still have a test system if needed, but would need P4 to mitigate the netlogon issue that will occur in February.

Question about connecting ONTAPSimuator from Trident

Is there any instruction to connect ONTAP Simulator as a Trident Backend?

  (I cannot found detailed documentation about connecting. I guess, The port numbers are written in backend code.)

I am using VMware Player from separated Physical Machine with K8s Master Node (another separated Physical Machine)

Question about Simulator Setup

ONTAP 9 Simulator: cannot access the GUI

$

I am trying to run the ONTAP 9 Simulator but I cannot access the GUI. I will provide you all the details.
Virtualizer: VMWare Fusion 12.1.0
ONTAP: vsim-netapp-DOT9.7-cm_nodar.ova

I have followed what is explained in this guide https://community.netapp.com/fukiw75442/attachments/fukiw75442/simulator-discussions/2079/1/ONTAP-Sim-Getting_Started_Quick_v10.pdf but when I enter the username and password I am told that the credentials are not correct.
Here are the steps I followed:
* Import the ova in VMWare
* The VM boot and as described by the guide, I press CTRL-C in order to get the the boot menu
* At the boot menu I select the Option 4 "Clean configuration and initialize all disks"
* During the reset process no errors are reported, the VM boot again and I am asked to enter the following parameters:
IP: 192.168.77.10(as described in the guide I look with ifconfig at the vmnet8 interface)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.77.2
Then comes that the rest of the config can also be finalized at https://192.168.77.10, but with the admin default credentials (https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1148877/html/GUID-3954F916-F50C-4A41-83AB-61BE1C38854B.html#:~:text=You%20should%20be%20logged%20in,the%20password%20is%20netapp!123) I cannot go on, so I continue the configuration on the Console with:
* create cluster
* single node cluster
* set admin cluster node password
* cluster name
* Additional License Key (according to the instructions it can be left empty)
* domain name (according to the instructions it can be left empty)
* Where is the controller located (according to the instructions it can be left empty)
* system config backup (according to the instructions it can be left empty)
Then on the screen it is reported that the GUI can be accessed at https://192.168.77.10, so I give admin as username and the password that I have just created but no way to get into the GUI.
With the credentials that I created I can log into the Console and per SSH but not into the GUI.
With security login show I can see that the admin user can authenticate over all the protocols (see screenshot).
I have tried to set up another user, with admin role and authentication over HTTP + SSH + ONTAPI + CONSOLE but the result is always the same, Console and SSH is ok but the GUI not.
I also tried to set the License Key as described on the guide, everything works as described until the moment where I want to log into the GUI, here I always get "Login failed verify username and password".
Could you please provide some advice/idea?
Kind Regards,
Davide Motti

I would like to test the new S3 functionality that was added in ONTAP 9.8, but the license file for the simulator does not contain a key for S3. Is it possible to get a license key for S3 as well?

Is there any instruction about connecting Trident from ONTAP Simulator?

Hopefully, following points are documented for passing TR-4798 sample.

  • IP Address/Mask/Gateway setting for ONTAP System Manager
  • Required License for ONTAP Simulator (SnapMirror etc)
  • Required SVM configuration
  • Required Aggregation configuration

Is there trouble shooting NFS mount problem?

I am trying to connect ONTAP Simulator via NFS. but it failed.

In summary,

  • NFS :Client <= Server  (NFS from Client to Server seems not accessible.)
  • ONTAP:Client<=>Server (CLUSTER/NODE seems to work)

Config

  CLUSTER IP 172.16.28.131

  Node IP         172.16.28.132

  NFS                 172.16.28.135

  Client              10.24.78.111

Current Status is follows

1)From Server (it seems NFS works from ONTAP simulator view)

  • policy seems to work.
    • vserver export-policy check-access -vserver svm0 -client-ip 10.24.78.111 -volume svm0_root -authentication-method sys -access-type read-write -protocol nfs3
  • network reachable to client.
    • network ping 10.24.78.111

2)From Client (It cannot reaches NFS server but other IP address (CLUSTER/NODE) is reachable)

  • network reachable to CLUSTER/NODE but not available to NFS. Also showmount does not work.
    • ping/traceroute/showmount

```
$ traceroute to 172.16.28.131 (172.16.28.131), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1  172.16.28.131 (172.16.28.131)  1.286 ms  1.452 ms  1.563 ms
$ traceroute 172.16.28.135 traceroute to 172.16.28.135 (172.16.28.135), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets
 1  testserver (172.16.28.1)  3074.575 ms !H  3074.492 ms !H  3074.471 ms !H
I am trying to execute TR-4798 (Oct 2020) SnapMirror sample (page 76). I failed to execute airflow sample.
So I break down to ansible with snapmirror operation. But still failed.
Is there any idea to solve this problem?
I execute following code.
ansible-playbook snapmirror-update.yaml
--- - name: "Trigger SnapMirror Update" hosts: localhost tasks: - name: update snapmirror na_ontap_snapmirror: state: present source_path: 'svm0:airflow_clone_20210121_090845' destination_path: 'svm0:airflow_clone_20210121_090905' hostname: '172.16.28.131' username: 'admin' password: 'ontapsim0' https: 'yes' validate_certs: 'False'
The output is  it seems http connection error.
I want to add disk to vol0. At this  moment, storage pool have no disks.
For this purpose, I want to get disk from another aggrgate.
Is it available?
From seeing the NetApp document, failed disk is written but I cannot found working disk.
Question about changing disk setup
Simulate ONTAP® 9.7 Installation and Setup Guide describes the simulator limitations. (like 220 GB and its disk size max is 9GB).
Is there any official document to change these parameters?
It seems exist in various forum discussions.
Thanks in advance
ONTAP 8.2.1 7-Mode simulator : Root Image Device: Input required
I had configured ONTAP 8.2.1 7-Mode simulator couple of months ago in my ESXi 6.5. It worked fine. I noticed today the following error:
*******************************************
Unable to read environment from CF card!
Please re-create your VM environment.
*******************************************
for which I followed the solution here of adding an empty floppy drive.
 https://community.netapp.com/t5/Simulator-Discussions/ONTAP-simulator-8-1-2-on-VirtualBox/td-p/12698
Now this error is gone. But when I reboot the SIM, It asks me to provide the following:
sudhirchamp2005_0-1614782861752.png
Can you please help me what shall I provide here as an input?
Also, I don't get  "press ctrl-C" banner
AFAIK, I should connect to cluster_mgmt  but when I try to ping it from my laptop, it doesn't work.
What am I missing here ?
Is ONTAP Simulator download (whether old or new versions) only available for Enterprise customers ?
For me, it says unauthorized access.
Is ndmpd supported on Snaplock Systems running ONTAP 9.7 / 9.8?
Hi ONTAP Gurus,
Could some let me know if NDMP service is allowed on ONTAP Systems with Snaplock Compliance enabled.
(i) NDMPd services in Cluster scope (vserver scope)
(ii) ndmpd services in Node Scope mode
Thank you
