Has anyone been able to upgrade the simulator from 9.7 to 9.8? Any tips or tricks to try? When I try to upgrade, my system hangs after reboot at...
I tried using the 9.8 simulator install but it is very unstable and crashes randomly. I also cannot get it to reboot reliably. And yes, I have plenty of space in vol0.
I've pulled more of my hair out trying to install the 9.8 vSIM on VM Workstation Pro. It is by default setup to use 5.1GB's of RAM, but I've found it locking up and freezing, very soon after coming up, even at the cluster setup questions.
I finally saw Matt Elver's post, https://community.netapp.com/t5/Simulator-Discussions/Upgrading-simulator-from-9-7-to-9-8-fail/m-p/165322 about the upgrade. I tried it, and had immediate success.
So I've setup all three nodes with 8GB's of RAM.
hello everyone. I need 9.3 simulator to test some function. but I just can find 9.5+ version in the support website.
who have the older version 9.3? please help to give me a download link.
thanks very much.
Hi.
What is the maximum node quantity supported on the simulator?
Is it only two?
Thanks.
As a proponent of ONTAP systems, I am finding it more and more difficult to stay current with new developments. Altough the current site I manage is not as large as in previous employments, it is still considerable and very important to our users. This soapbox will concentrate on the virtual Simulator, and only from an end-user perspective. I do not work for NetApp, nor am I a VAR or other affiliate, and cannot speak to the tools they may have available to them.
I have seen a gradual decrease in the quantity and quality of tools made available to power-users. I keep a lab, with VMware and associated tools and virtual servers of all kinds to learn and test with and perform general R&D.
ONTAP vSIM is a staple in my lab, as is VMWare, vCenter, etc... Whether on purpose or not, NetApp made it more difficult to maintain my lab by restricting the vSim to VMWorkstation.
ONTAP tools such as the Unified Manager Appliance, run on ESXi. Yes I could run it on as a non-appliance, but in my case vApps are easily approved and implemented. And for a lab, it is easier as well, since I don't have to worry about configuring it.
ONTAP 9.9.1.RC1 is out, with improvements since 9.8, which I would like to see and prepare for implementation. Since there is no ESXi version, and since I lost my SSD with my previous lab, I can't install 9.8 and then attempt an upgrade. I have been looking around the web, and in fact I do not see any mention of the ability to upgrade a 9.8 vSim to 9.9.1.
If it wouldn't be too out of NetApp's way, I ask that they maintain the ESXi versions of the tools, and allow the upgrades. After all, upgrading ONTAP is part of the test process.
hi to all
we neeed a demo environment for custosmer ,CIFS migration purpose, from 9.1 to 9.7 version
But i cannot find it,
Is there anywhre that i can donwload it
I am attempting to deploy a new single node 9.7 OnTap Simulator on vSphere v6.7. We deployed it successfully, but when it deployed, it defaulted to creating 14 x 1Gb disks with the root aggregate. We have enough space allocated that I can have 56 x 4Gb disks (that is what we used for the previous 9.5 deployment).
Thanks to this extremely helpful thread (https://community.netapp.com/t5/Simulator-Discussions/ONTAP-Simulator-Fixes-MEGA-Thread/td-p/11213) I was able to create 28 x 4Gb and build a new aggregate. Unfortunately, since this is a single node cluster, the system node migrate-root command does not work. So, I am attempting to follow these procedures to move vol0 to a new aggregate (https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting/Data_Storage_Software/ONTAP_OS/How_to_move_mroot_to_a_new_root_aggregate_in_a_single_node_cluster). But, when I go into maintenance mode and run the "aggr options new_aggr0 ha_policy cfo" command, it just hangs and never completes.
Can anyone tell me why this is hanging?
Or, am I just complicating this entire process? Is there a way to get it to deploy using the 4Gb disks? Or, a way to wipe the config from the boot menu and have it redeploy with 4Gb disks?
Any help is appreciated.
Hi Everybody
Who can help me, I want to create sim 9.8, but the following error message will always appear, how can I solve it?
The management gateway server restarted. waiting to see if the connection can be reestablished...
Thank you
Installed 2 node cluster in simulator 9.8.

Hello,
After upgrading to version 9.9.1 in my Ontap Sim lab I noticed that now the cluster nodes are with a constant high CPU percentage. I performed several tests by creating a new cluster in both versions 9.8 and 9.9.1. I found that the 9.8 cluster has no high CPU behavior but the 9.9.1 cluster does.
Any change in version 9.9.1?
My environment:
ESXi version = 7.0u2
CPU = Intel Xeon Processor E5-2630 v4
Mem = 128GB
Ontap Sim 9.8 CPU - ESXi:

Ontap Sim 9.9 CPU - ESXi:

Any help would be appreciated.
I work for ISV and I develop an application that integrates with netapp ontap apis to collect information so that our customers can use our application with their netapps. We have deployed netapp ontap select virtual appliance to develop but after 30 days it stop working and have to redeploy new one.
Is it possible to get a permanent free license to develop against netapp ontap select virtual? if so where should i ask for it?
I need to enable audit in simulator but it fails with this error. And I cant increase the size of the disks in vmware esx.

Hi
I tried downloading the simulator for testing purposes as a part of trial with community account but of no luck and I think I am not on right page
If some one has link to download any 9. cluster version of ontap simulator, please let me know
Thanks

Hi everybody,
we do have the problem that we are unable to build a relationship between two, 2-Node vsim cluster.
We are only get

Hi ,
Please help, when i download ontap 9.5 simulater getting error in the middle after 170 MB.
error is : failed "Network error".
Hello Team,
We have installed Ontap 9.7 simulator ova. Created two node cluster setup and we are trying to access UI using url
http://<cluster management ip> but UI is inaccessible. Also tried installing System manager software 3.1.3. but no success to load ui. Could you pls check and share steps if changed for 9.7 ?
Hi, do any of the simulators allow ADP1 or ADP2? Thanx in advance.
I have been running the latest 9.9.1 simulator image without issue on Windows 10, but after upgrading to Windows 11 I got a very unhelpful "failed to start the virtual machine" error message. Looking at the logs wasn't immediately helpful.
So I initially thought it might be due to the enhanced security with core isolation and memory integirt checking. I disabled that, rebooted, and then tried again. Same result.
So after re-enabling the memory integrity checkbox I decided to swing for the fences and upgrade the virtual hardware of the simulator VMs to VMware Workstation 16 (the latest). And voila! It worked.
Not only did it work but I was able to do the same with my second controller node and re-form a healthy cluster.
Now mind you, this is a 2-node simulator that is still in progress so I haven't rejoined AD, created SVMs, et cetera. But it appears to work fine and thought this might be useful to anyone else that wants to use the simulator on Windows 11, assuming you have a recent upgrade on VMware Workstation.
