ONTAP 9.7; ESXi?

Having trouble getting the 9.7 simulator running on an ESXi server (v6.7.0, fwiw).  Running into repeated panics, the console not echoing input, and, most recently "Internal error: Cannot open corrupt replicated database.  Automatic recovery attempt has failed or is disabled".  It *did* get far enough in the CLI wizard for me to assign it an IP, and for me to use the Web wizard to set the root password; but after that, hangs and database problems.

 

So!  None of the instructions mention ESXi, they're all for workstation versions; is ESXi just unsupported now?

Ontap simulator 9.6 vol0 full

I installed ontap 9.6 simulator and my vol0 ran out of space. I disabled all the snapshots on aggregate and volumes and still did not help.

-Node cluster1-02 is in an unhealthy state

-aggregates for cluster1-02 are showing in unknown state

-Resizing does not work of the vol0

-rebooted the node multiple times

Is netapp simulator support tiering feature to storage grid

Hi folk,

 

Anyone can tell me Netapp Ontap simulator has feature to provide tiering data from ontap to storage grid with fabric pool feature? Do not have any limitation with this feature as i would like to test.

 

I would like to use this case for lab scenario while Covid-19 situation if it successful,i will propose this solution to customer on real environment.

Simulator Cluster Peering

I am attempting to setup two NetApp clusters with two nodes each using the 9.7 simulator and peer them to do SnapMirror. I get an error stating that I cannot peer two systems with the same UUID. I changed the second node serial number with the  setenv SYS_SERIAL_NUM 4034389-06-2 and setenv bootarg.nvram.sysid commands, but the license provided with the simulator only has two serial numbers I can use and I need four apparently.

 

Does anyone know how to get around this?

Why were all the older ONTAP Simulator Files removed from the support site?

I routinely download them to simulate different environments ranging from older 7-mode to earlier ONTAP releases. There are customers that cannot upgrade so I try to position a simulated environment to assist. Most of the files are *as-is* and not supported anyway. Why remove them? 

 

Please, PLEASE put them back! or at the least re-enable the old Simulate ONTAP download page. Right now it redirects to the "current" tools site limiting selections to 9.5 / 9.6 and 9.7

Hi all,

 Just landd here so please apologize for errors.
I'm trying to find the download for simulators on mynetapp but I always land on the initial download page and there I can't find a reference for the simulator download.
If I follow the link for https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/tools/tool-eula/simulate-ontap the site change the page to https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/tools and again can't find the needed link.
I'm registered and logged in as partner and, as far as I can tell, it should be possible for me to d/load the simulator.

 

Are other experience the same problem or is only my fault ?

Hi All

      I create a single node cluster for CIFS testing...I had create a aggrgate &volume for CIFS share .

after all setting..I  could connect it from a Win10 Workstation..

but one day later...My Cluster show Mroot messagt like below

I do not need backup anything on my lab 

How could I disable the backup task ??

nfs4_setfacl could not set netAPP NFS volume.

NETAPP simulator version 9.0/9.5/9.7

Client: SuSE12 SP4 which install nfs4-acl-tools

 

Scenario:

1. I create a aggrgate and a volume which include CIFS and NFS protocols.

2. I try to use suse to mount it by using  mount.nfs4....it mount well.

After mount well...I  try to set nfs ACL by using nfs4_setfacl....

it show error message, whether parameter that I set mistake or something I forgot ??

How to correct mount CIFS volume from linux ??

Hi All

       I am learning NetAPP...and create a CIFS volume..volume name is engineering.

now I could let Win10 mount it and write a file well. (mount path : \\SVM_IP\nsroot\engineering)

then I  want to using linux to mount CIFS volume...

I create a (cifs) file to provide credential information like below

-----------------

username=plateuser
password=vu/41234
domain=abc.com.tw

------------

then add setting in /etc/fstab

----------------

<SVM_IP>:/engineering /mnt/test cifs ro,nouser,noexec,nosuid,credentials=/usr/XXX/yyy/ZZZ/cifs 0 0

----------------------

 

but I tested mount..it show BAD UNC...

which parameter or setting that I forgot or set error ?

Feasibility about Simulator Installation on ESXi hosts

Hi All,

When I read the system Requirements & Installation, I see the options for Windows and Mac only with VMware Workstation & Fusion respectively.

 Since this is a OVA file, I understand the possibility of installing directly on ESXi hosts, please could you share your thoughts or feedback on what should I know before installing it on ESXi hosts?

NetApp Simulator & vVOLs

Hi everyone,

I am trying to evaluate NetApp vVOLs functionality in the following nested environment: NetApp simbox Ontap 9.7, vCenter Server 6.5 U2, ESXi hosts 6.5 U2, VSC 9.7.1. According to NetApp Compatibility Matrix tool all the components are compatible and the infrastructure is supported. vVOLs are not in the list of simbox limitations or unsupported features.

However, there is something wrong with vVOLs in this environment. While provisionning vVOL datastore from the NetApp vCenter plugin, i always facing the same error -  "NetApp Datastore allocation, Contaier create failed" . Unfortuantely there  are not much details on this error, nothing in ESXi event logs. I downloaded and reviewed VSC logs, but also could not find anything which may give me a clue on what is wrong with my configuration. So i even could no get if the problem in a NetApp or ESXi level.

Unlike vVOLs creation, provisioning regular NFS volumes and iSCSI lun works OK. datastores are created and successfully mapped to all hosts in the vsphere cluster, accessible for VMs creation\migration.  

I would greatly appreciate if someone could share his experience in configuring vVOLs.

Symptom: Call home for ROOT VOLUME NOT WORKING PROPERLY: RECOVERY REQUIRED. on 9.7 simulator

When I am trying to recovery the root volume from loader on simulator 9.7, I don't get to see "unsetenv bootarg.init.boot_recovery" option.  Any idea, why this option is not available?  Thanks

ONTAP simulator hang and web-based not response during using

Hello, I'm using ONTAP simulator on VMware workstation for testing, and already setup completely. During using the simulator about 1 hour,  it get stuck and not response on browser too.

 

Anyone having experience the same as me or not? I'm using this simulator version 9.7.

 

Let me know if you have solution to fix this, thank you.

Unable to change the SYS_SERIAL_NUM for 9.7 simulator

As per the instructions - ran the following commands 

Change the serial number and system ID for this node:

 

a) VLOADER> setenv SYS_SERIAL_NUM 4034389-06-2

b) VLOADER> setenv bootarg.nvram.sysid 4034389062 

 

Verify that the information was saved correctly:

a) VLOADER> printenv SYS_SERIAL_NUM

b) VLOADER> printenv bootarg.nvram.sysid

 

a) VLOADER> boot

 

further I get the following error
