I am wondering whether the simulator supports pNFS with both MDS and DS nodes, or just an MDS? I am thinking maybe it does not support DS nodes since that is similar to clustering but wanted to confirm.

when attempting to load the OVA file into ESX 6.5 we are getting the message in the attachment..
The install does not find any disks according to the message.
I know this has been brought up before but I'm asking NetApp to please consider adding KVM virtualization for their ontap simulator. Please put this on your roadmap, if not officially in some unofficial community supported manner.

I've configured the snapdrive utility against an DATA SVM in a one node cluster environment because of administration separation issues.
the "snapdrive create" command runs properly but the "snapdrive connect" command raises the 002-266 Error.
The FlexClone license is installed but it shows the type "Node locked" to the Node SVM Name.
Is this only a simualtor behavior and we can avoid this problem in our future Storage System ?

I can't load the 9.4 vSim. It loads the .ovf to 25% exactly, then freezes. I tried running it through the OVF tool, but it reports vdisk errors.
Having all kinds of problems. Looks like it starts with the first disk, but fails on sharing.
Myself and others trying to download the simulators (9.4, but I tried 9.2 also) are always getting error below. tried different browsers, different places, different times. Download broken?

already opened a different post but I do not meet the requirements of ONTAP Select, so it's back to Simulator. How can I get my hands on the NVE / NSE licenses? AFAIK they are free of charge anyways, but all versions are NODAR (because of export regulations?).

I have the OnTap Simulator v8.1.4 7-Mode running on my VMWare Workstaion Pro. I have the netapp simulator configured correcly from an "OnTap" perspective for the regular setup values, network IP, subnet, gateway, dns, etc.
I'm confused on what my settings should be for the VM Network adapters ad whether I should be using Bridged or Host-Only; and on what adapters for these.
In My Virtual Network editor I have the following (by default):
VMnet0 - Bridged (Auto-Bridging) with no Host connection, DHCP or subnet Address
VMnet1 - Host-Only - with no external connection shown, Host connection shows Connected no DHCP, shows a Subnet Address
VMnet3 - NAT, NAT, Connected, DHCP Enabled, shpows a Subnet address
In my Sim VM settings:
Network Adapter #...
1 Host-Only
2 Host-Only
3 NAT
4 NAT
I can ping myelf (Sim VM)
I cannot ping anay other IP's outside of the SIM (nor by name).
I'm greatful for any assistance as this is out of my VM knowledge realm even though I'm very verse in OnTap.

I loaded the NetApp Simulator on an ESXi server to test something in our virtual lab.
We have a project that we need to replicate what a customer is doing so we can test VMs that use RAW disk mappings.
We need to replicate 6 to 8 disk that are RAW mapped to VMs
I followed an example to install and configure a single node cluster.
It defaults to multiple disk (56 disk with 52 available at 3.93 GB) and it looks like I have about 147 GB of space to create disk(s).
I am now at a point where i need to replicate 4 to 8 disk.
In the attached, I see 147.66 GB of usable space.
Do I need to create an aggregate for the 6 to 8 RAW disks or multiple aggregates for each disk?
What would be the steps necessary to accomplish setting up the disk mapping as RAW to the VMs

I have the ONTAP 9.6 Simulator running in VirtualBox . Currently using the vidconsole for console access but would like to use comconsole (serial console) for console access.
`set console=comconsole` or `set console=comconsole,vidconsole` just causes ONTAP to freeze up shortly after issuing the `boot` command. If I use just vidconsole or put vidconsole first, ONTAP will boot normally.

After that, it just stops and hangs up forever. No additional output on either the comconsole or the vidconsole.
Similar behavior with ONTAP 9.5. Haven't attempted any other 9.x versions.

I installed a SIM 9.5P6 2 node cluster -ESX version and once setup completed added some licenses to the cluster, but with this version only shows the second node as licensed and shows the node 1 as not licensed.
For the VMWARE Player version, Netapp provides licenses for both nodes and I get both nodes licensed.
Is this is a bug or know issue?

I installed two ONTAP 9.5P6 simulator nodes and changed the SN ofone node following the installation guide. I configured two single node clusters based on these two nodes. Then I found the cluster SN of both clusters is 1-80-000011.
Is it possible to change the cluster SN? Then I can have two cluster with two different SN.

Has anyone had any issues with multiple disk failures on the OnTap simulator? We have two single-node simulators setup (running on VMWare 6.0), and have had multiple occasions over the past year where multiple disks will fail in very quick succession, and it ends up failing the aggregate. I can't imagine what would cause some, but not all the virtual disks to fail, since they are all part of the same disk that has been assigned to the simulator in VMWare.
At this point, the simulator is dead in the water, because the root volumes for all the vservers were on the failed aggregate. I tried unfailing the disks, but now they are "orphaned" and the hot spares that tried to replace the failed disks are marked as "reconstruct stalled". It won't even let me delete any of the volumes, or the failed aggregate.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to recover from this short of blowing away the entire simulator and rebuilding from scratch? Also, any suggestions for why this may be happening and how to prevent it in the future would be nice as well (or, at least how to quickly recover from it).

I built (about a month ago) a SIMBOX netapp 8.2.3 7-mode system. I setup shares via the OnCommand system manager (3.1.3) and somehow, I am unable to view/see Shares, NFS Exports, and LUNs anymore. Those CIFS shares I did create are now inassessible to the systems previously able to view these CIFs (Windows). Very odd...

Wondering if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction for downloading VSIM for ONTAP of ONTAP 8.2.4 P6 and ONTAP 8.2.5 P1 . We support those in our environment and wanted to do some testing in a staged environment to see if we could simulate some fixes before we deploy them to the field.

I'm looking for a simulator download to deploy the NetApp ONTAP 9.7 simulator in VMWare Vshphere/ESXi so we can test compatibility with our product and the latest version of the NetApp software. We have our own library to connect to SMB shares and we want to test compatibility between this and the latest NetApp version to provide feedback to our customers.
I only see 9.6 listed when I click the "Data OnTAP Simulator" but under "ONTAP Select" section I see a 9.7 version, is this the version I should be using or is this a different product?

I'm trying to get a vsim netapp 7m 8.2.1 running and I got the file for the tgz from this location:

I'm encountering problems trying to get the simulator running. when I open the vmx file it will boot but it will say it does not have a recognized core disk.
Referencing https://community.netapp.com/t5/Simulator-Discussions/8-2P6-7-Mode-simulator/td-p/122726#, I thought I might have to convert the files into ova so I did with:
c:\Program Files\VMware\VMware OVF Tool>ovftool.exe --shaAlgorithm=SHA1 "C:\7 mode\vsim.ova" "C:\7 mode\vsim-SHA1.ova"
But I still got the same boot disk issue.
I attempted what was suggested but I get an error for attempting to convert the vmx here:

So I downloaded the 7-mode 8.2.3 simulator along with the keys. It appears to create vfilers I need a multistore license key and that was not included with the simulator. Does anyone know where I can get that from?
