I'm getting familiar with Netapp by using the simulator in my home lab with 9.4. Currently I have a 2 node cluster. I found the ontap 9 High Availability guide. Based on the instructions I have booted node 1 into Maintenance Mode. Now trying to run ha_config commands (ha_config show, ha_config modify controller ha-state etc.). It says "ha_config commands not supported on this configuration". Is it possible to run the simulator in HA mode to test the HA features out? I need to have a good understanding of how HA works. Peering SVMs "no permitted SVMs"?

Need to ask a help here related my test lab using ontap simulator 9.4 which is my currently in testing to do a snapmirror exercise. Now i stuck on part on SVM peering.
Still playing with on peer configuration part and I've setup a cluster1 and cluster2 Select instance.
I've setup cluster peering and it looks healthy.
I'm trying to setup SVM peering so I can try to get an SVM on my cluster1 to replicated to my cluster2
I can see the cluster but I simply see "no permitted SVMs" and I've not tracked down any kb article that seems to tell me why.
The source SVM is basic with just a single volume and NFS and CIFS protocol enabled.
The destination SVM that I created is the same.
Any thought what the point i missing? Thank

ONTAP 9.3 Simulator Booting up Issue
Hi,
I have a vSIM 9.3 setup and running on my test lab, recent check I found there is some issue with it as the screenshot as attached. This is actually the 2nd time it had happened. Not sure if this could be fixed instead of rebuilding them.
So its actually running on VMware ESXi 6.5.

Simulator and AFF personality, anyone?
Hi,
has anyone ever managed to give a 9.x Sim an AFF personality?
We want to "simulate" e.g. QoS settings (floors)... We're aware, that they won't "work", obviously, but it would be nice to be able to check the GUI and defaults of an AFF system (for training/course development).

Can we able to install Netapp simulator 7 mode on window laptop? My laptop is not supportting virtualization technology ( so i am not able to install VMware).
If we can have option to install simulator on windows OS directly, please let know the version and link to download ontap.

NetApp 8.3.2 Simulator - No IP connectivity on intercluster interfaces (e0a and e0b)
I installed Netapp Ontap 8.3.2 simulator on VMworkstation Player 12. The first node installed fine and I was able to creat a cluster. I then installed node 2 and attempted to join the cluster created by node one; however, it fails everytime.
I am not able to ping the intercluster IP addresses (the IP addresses on interface e0a and e0b) on node 2 from node 2 itself, but I can ping the intercluster interfaces on node 1 from node 1.
Can someone assist me in solving this issue? I would greatly appreciate it.

Sim 9.5 root volume trashed after power failure
A few times now we've had power failures and the 9.5 vsim root vol gest trashed. Logging in, I see

Internal error: Cannot open corrupt replicated database. Automatic recovery
attempt has failed or is disabled. Check the event logs for details. This node
is not fully operational. Contact support personnel for the root volume recovery
procedures.
(Or the other one about root vol corrupted.)
I've read the articles that say to use
VLOADER> unsetenv bootarg.init.boot_recovery
... but I get:
no such file or directory
Others have noted it's not there in 9.5 and possibly earlier versions.
Is there a way to recover in 9.5?
I also read there is a way to use fast persistent storage for NVRAM. We have NVME and SSD. Is there a how-to on that?

NetApp VSIM ESX 9.5P6 checksum does not match file name
I downloaded vsim version vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm_nodar.ova
The checksum download, MD5Checksums_9.5P6.txt, has listed
vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm.ova
and
vsim-netapp-DOT9.5P6-cm_nodar.ova
I do not see vsim version vsim-esx-DOT9.5P6-cm_nodar.ova
Is this a typo in the MD5Checksums_9.5P6.txt file?

Configuring ontap cluster 8.3.2 in workstation 12 - windows
Hi folks,
I have VMWare workstation 12 pro running on windows 10.
I have folowed the guide on how to install and configure a two node cluster of OT 8.3.2.
My query relates to the network config.
I configure e0c as 192.168.1.20 - the cluster mgmt interface as in the guide.
Once both nodes are up and running I thenwant to access the cluster using OnCOmmand. The problem is I cannot ping / ssh / http to the cluster interrface from my windows PC.
Why is this ? I am using the default VMWare workstation network config with VMNet0, 1 and 8. I have the virtual network interferfaces on the cluster nodes as default.
How am I suposed to kno which interface uses which virtual NIC ? My PC is configured with an IP of 10.0.1.3 /24 with a gateway of 10.0.1.1
Do I need to use a bridges interface instead and if so, which virtual NIC do I configure to do that.
Driving me nuts so hopefuly somebody can help !

Ontap 9 Simulator second node wont boot after changing serial number
Hi,
I am setting up the Ontap 9 sim on Vsphere for the first time. I have the first node running, when I do the following from page 37 of the instructions on the second node it wont boot:
4. Change the Serial Number and System ID for this node:
VLOADER> setenv SYS_SERIAL_NUM 4034389-06-2
VLOADER> setenv bootarg.nvram.sysid 4034389062
5. Verify that the information was saved correctly:
LOADER> printenv SYS_SERIAL_NUM
VLOADER> printenv bootarg.nvram.sysid
6. Enter the boot command to boot the node: VLOADER> boot
After changing the serial number control + C no longer works to enter the boot menu. I get the message: 'System IDs do not match'. I think this is because there is no real NVRAM to write the new system ID to. So I choose y to over ride the sys ID and get the following:

Cannot add the NetApp simulator into the Oncommand system manager
Hi all,
I'm new to NetApp simulator and in the learning phase .I followed this document https://community.netapp.com/fukiw75442/attachments/fukiw75442/developer-network-articles-and-resources/112/1/Simulate+ONTAP+8.2+Step-by-Step+Installation+%2528nau-final%2529.pdf%20 to install and configured netapp simulator (8.3.2) in vSphere Client, created a single node cluster in the simulator & created a virtual machine (Win7) on vsphere and installed Oncommand System manager (3.1.2) in there as well. After I complete those steps I was able to ping to my netapp simulator from my virtual machine and vice versa,
But when i try to add my netapp simulator to the Oncommand system manger it won't allow me to do so. There was an error message saying *Invalid or incomplete XML received due to communication error or character encoding errors" & also when I type the cluster IP in the web Brower (IE8) it shows me a blank window with an url https://cluster ip /sysmgr/sysmgr.html certification error. Can you give me an idea what I might done wrong in here & how to fix it?

vsim cDOT 8.3.2 delay between login prompt and full working system
Environment:
- vsim 8.3.2
- on ESXi 6
- w/4GB mem, 2-cores
- single-node cluster
When booting up I usually watch ONTAP's console and wait for the point where the login prompt is issued to see that it's up and running. Recently I've noticed the ' whole cluster DB process' takes awhile longer to come. In particular I notice the cluster_mgmt interface doesn't respond. So I log into the node_mgmt interface and type 'net int show' and see only the node_mgmt LIF and some other commands don't work. CPU usage is high during this phase but after N minutes all the interfaces, vservers, etc become available.
I'm wondering if other see this delay and if so, how long it is? I just saw one that took 30 minutes to come fully up.

Error 502 Proxy Error
Hi all,
I'm playing with the NetApp Sim 8.2.1 and I'm getting 502 Proxy errors when trying to perform volume based configurations, I'm not sure what the hell is going on. For example trying to mount a volume to a root volume times out and that's when I get the Proxy 502 error. I've tried varous things such as removing java and system manager and reinstalling, removing the cluster and re-adding into the manager and nothing seems to be working. All the components I'm using are running in the virtualised envionment
Configuration is
vmware workstation v12
Server 2012R2 Standard Ed. for oncommand system manager / AD
Java x64 v7.0
System Manager 3.1.1
and the 2 x sims v 8.2.1

Snapmirror with Simulators
Using either version 8.3 or 9 of the simulator, I am able to configure snapmirror between clusters using vmware workstation and player. However once it is done on ESX I am unable to peer the clusters.
Cluster Peer health show says ICMP ok but Data unavailable. This has been tested with a single host and an isolated vswitch as well as across multiple hosts.
vsphere 6 is the host version. (also this was tested using both the workstation and ESX build of the simulator with similar results.)

Is there a way to simulate disk failure and recovery operations using the simulator?
I am new to using the simulator, but, I want to use the simulator to train other admins on the proper procedures for disk recovery, ha takeover ops, etc...

Simulator in Amazon Cloud?
Hello Everyone,
Curious if anyone has attempted to load the OnTap Simulator in Amazon C3 Cloud? My MacBook Air only has 4 GB of RAM not meeting the 5GB requirements and yard sales when attempting to boot.
